local celebrities and adoption

You hear a lot of frightning tales about adoption. The lifelong attachment disorder. The birthmother who steals her babies and attempts to flee to Canada. The Olympic medalist adoptee who confesses he feels displaced and orphaned even as an adult. Finalizations falling through at the last minute. I think the negative stories have a way of being repeated more often than the postive. That seems to be human nature.

Today, at the mall, I was blessed by chatting with an adult Korean adoptee. You might recognize her.. She had such great things to say about the whole shabang. She is very involved with adoptive families. We exchanged info and we've already been e-mailing back and forth. As a new adoptive mama, her persective is invaluable to me. I need to hear the positive.

That's really cool. I'm sure the positive stories FAR outweigh the negatives...and remember, plenty of kids raised by their birth parents have issues...so the adoption may not have as much to do with it as the parents. If that's the case, you and Matt, being fabulous parents, have nothing to worry about. My best friend from elementary through H.S. was adopted from Vietnam and her younger sister from Korea. They are positive outcome stories.

Were just waiting for you guys to be ON the news reported by Michele Sherwood. I know that I was distraught when I first found out I was an Adopted American...I always thought I was Korean. What a cruel World we live in!
